Our Story

Light Evangelism Ministries was established with a vision to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ and make disciples across Uganda, particularly in the western region. Founded by Bishop Jonathan Bukenya in the early 1980s, the ministry began with a small group of passionate believers who felt called to bring spiritual revival and transformation to their communities. Over the years, the ministry has grown in scope and influence, expanding its outreach efforts to various districts within Western Uganda.

The mission of Light Evangelism Ministries is rooted in the Great Commission, as outlined in Matthew 28:19-20, which instructs believers to go and make disciples of all nations. The ministry aims to fulfill this mandate by conducting evangelistic campaigns, organizing discipleship programs, and engaging in humanitarian initiatives that address the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of individuals and communities.

Activities and Programs

Evangelism and Outreach

Central to the ministry's activities is evangelism, which involves proclaiming the Gospel message to both unreached and marginalized populations in Western Uganda. This is achieved through crusades, open-air meetings, house-to-house visits, and distribution of Christian literature. These efforts are aimed at introducing people to the saving grace of Jesus Christ and inviting them into a personal relationship with Him. Evangelistic campaigns organized by Light Evangelism Ministries often feature dynamic preaching, worship sessions, testimonies, and prayer for healing and deliverance. These events serve as rallying points for believers and seekers alike, creating opportunities for spiritual renewal and transformation within communities.

Discipleship and Leadership Training

In addition to evangelism, the ministry places a strong emphasis on discipleship and leadership development. Recognizing the importance of nurturing new believers and equipping them for ministry, Light Evangelism Ministries conducts discipleship classes, Bible studies, and mentoring programs. These initiatives are designed to deepen participants' understanding of Scripture, strengthen their faith, and empower them to become effective witnesses for Christ in their spheres of influence. Leadership training is also a key component of the ministry's discipleship efforts. Through seminars, conferences, and workshops, emerging leaders are equipped with biblical principles, practical skills, and spiritual insights needed to serve effectively within the church and broader community. This emphasis on leadership development ensures continuity and sustainability in the ministry's outreach endeavors.

Humanitarian and Community Development Initiatives

Beyond spiritual outreach, Light Evangelism Ministries is actively involved in addressing the holistic needs of individuals and communities in Western Uganda. This includes providing humanitarian assistance to vulnerable groups such as orphans, widows, and the elderly. The ministry distributes food, clothing, and other essential supplies to alleviate poverty and improve quality of life for those in need. Moreover, Light Evangelism Ministries engages in community development projects aimed at promoting sustainable livelihoods and enhancing social infrastructure.
